BACKGROUND

The Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture (HKICC) is a non-profit, non-government and community-initiated organization founded in Hong Kong for promoting cultural development at local, regional and international levels. The development of HKICC has been steered bya board and an executive committee with members from the fields of arts and culture, education, media, commerce and creative industries since its inception in 1996.

MISSION

Embracing a vision for supporting sustainable development through advocating cultural diversity and a creative civil society, HKICC proactively plays multiple roles in art development, creative education, cultural exchanges and research and development, both locally and globally.

OBJECTIVES    
  1. To help develop Hong Kong as a vibrant and cultural centre and a civil society by organizing arts and cultural events.


  2. To nurture people for the creative industries and the arts and cultural communities by implementing programs on creative education, including operating a senior secondary school of creativity.
 
  1. To strengthen the awareness of cultural diversity by supporting and maintaining an open platform for cultural exchanges.


  2. To carry out research and development programs on issues relating to cultural development and creative education.


DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES

Networking: city-to-city basis, NGO-initiated, cross-disciplinary, cross-sector, cross-regional

Research: applied and strategic research, from data-base establishment to policy proposals, comparative approach

Advocacy: local and regional collaboration, dialogue-oriented, program-driven

People Development: empowerment by involving people in planning, organizing, leading, reviewing, communication and decision making for projects of different scales
