BACKGROUND
The
Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture (HKICC)
is a non-profit, non-government community-initiated organization
founded in 1996. Its major aim is to promote cultural development
by initiating cultural exchange, creative education, cultural research
programs and art development programmes. Since its inception, the
institute has proactively strived to expand the sphere and scope
of cultural cooperation and exchange between Hong Kong and the rest
of the world.

- To embrace the broad cultural vision
of a world city, to promote cultural exchange between Hong Kong,
which is a gateway to Mainland China, and the rest of the world.
- To
promote the development of Hong Kong as a vibrant and creative
cultural hub and a civil society.
- To carry out research and development
programs, especially in relation to the infrastructure, network
and human resource development for cultural exchange and development.

- To promote the awareness of cultural
pluralism by supporting and maintaining an open public sphere
through programs and activities.
- To act as a centre of interaction and
dialogue between the arts community, government, policy makers
and the public for the promotion of a modern and enlightened contemporary
Hong Kong culture.
- To respond to the changing paradigms
brought about by technological advancement, to sponsor the operation
of schools and to organize creative education programmes, workshops
and seminars to nurture talent for the creative industries and
the art and cultural communities.
